Ohio Medical Cannabis Sales Were Over $54 Million In March

Ohio’s 123 licensed medical cannabis dispensaries sold over $54 million worth of medical cannabis products in March 2024 according to new data released by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control, up from $38.4 million total sales in February 2024. March’s sales figures were also an increase over March 2023 sales totals.

The first legal medical cannabis purchase was made in Ohio on January 16, 2019, and since that time Ohio medical cannabis dispensaries have sold roughly $1.8 billion worth of medical cannabis products combined. Sales totals for March 2024 included (via Cleveland.com’s initial reporting):

  • 9,232 pounds of flower for $25.2 million
  • 496,000 units of vape products for $14.6 million
  • 3,478 units of topical lotions and creams for $6.7 million
  • 283,257 units of edibles for $6.6 million

In 2023 Ohio became the 24th state to approve a statewide adult-use legalization measure. Ohio’s legalization model permits adult use sales, which are expected to start as early as next month. Regulators estimate that there will be between 250-300 adult-use dispensaries once the legal recreational industry is fully operation in Ohio.

  • 10 provisional testing lab licenses

In addition to statistics related to patients, caregivers, and business licenses, Ohio also published updated sales figures for the state’s medical cannabis program, which are listed below:

  • 254,816 lbs. of plant material
  • 23,145,530 units of manufactured product
  • $1.78 billion in product sales
  • 14,935,298 total receipts
  • Plant Sales Average – $17.12 per 1/10oz
  • Plant Sales Average – $6.05 per gram
  • Manufactured Sales Average – $26.73 per unit

Earlier this year Ohio lowered medical cannabis patient registration fees to one penny.
