According to data recently published by the Connecticut Department of Health and Human Services, the state’s legal cannabis industry sold nearly $24 million worth of legal products in June 2024. The number is down from May 2024, when the legal Connecticut cannabis industry sold nearly $25 million in legal cannabis products.
“Recreational cannabis sales dropped incrementally from $16.5 million in May to $16.3 million in June.” reported CT Insider in its local coverage. “Medical cannabis sales have taken a far steeper dive, however. There were a total of $7.6 million in medical cannabis sales in June, down from $8.2 million in May.”
“The trend continues a multimonth slide in Connecticut; sales were already on a downward trend in the opening months of 2024, with $24.9 million in January sales and then $23.6 million the month after that.” reported Green Market Report.
On June 22, 2021, Gov. Edward “Ned” Lamont signed S.B. 1201. The “Act Concerning the Equitable and Responsible Regulation of Cannabis” legalized cannabis for adult-use in Connecticut. Connecticut was the 19th state in the U.S. to adopt a recreational cannabis legalization measure.
The first legal adult-use cannabis sale occurred in Connecticut on January 10, 2023. Industry regulators in Connecticut reported more than $250,000 in sales generated during the first seven hours alone on opening day. Connecticut’s adult-use industry generated $24,613,367 in tax revenue in 2023.
On June 1, 2012, Gov. Dannel Malloy signed HB 5389 which made Connecticut the 17th state to adopt a medical cannabis legalization measure. The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection adopted formal rules for the state’s medical cannabis program in September 2013.
